Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
Item upgrade, commonly referred to as "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment boosts the stat linearly.
Players can recycle up to six items at once to gain an ability to gauge the level of each of the item's upgraded components. The cost of recycling items increases depending on their rarity and level.
Upgrade components
In Guild Wars 2, an upgrade to an item is a method to boost the stats of your weapon and armor. This can be done through many different methods, including using upgrade components and upgrading an item's mark levels or rarity. A lot of items can be reforged to boost their value.
Upgradable items can be found throughout the game, both around the world and as rewards for missions. Players can also craft them. Upgrade components are the primary way to upgrade equipment. These are the items that can be inserted into equipment. The majority of equipment comes with slots to upgrade and some require a certain level of upgrade. Certain upgrade components offer specific bonuses while others provide general bonuses.
There are a variety of upgrade components in the game, including universal upgrades, inscriptions and jewels. Universal upgrades, like gems and enchantments, can be put on any type of equipment and provide smaller bonuses than equipment-specific upgrades. Glyphs can be placed in gathering tools, and provide various bonuses, from increasing the speed at which an item gathers to supplying additional crafting materials.
Select the item in your inventory, and then open the Upgrade window. This will display a preview on the right side of the screen that shows what the expected stats are after the upgrade, along with any necessary components or materials. If you don't possess enough of either the upgrade button will be marked as Blocked.
The upper-right side of the screen shows the amount of upgrade components needed for the specific item. The cost of an upgrade increases with the level and rarity of the item increase. However you can lower this cost by purchasing upgrades from a seller or trading them with other players.
The majority of weapons can be upgraded by a prefix such as a rune, or an insignia. Some can be upgraded by adding an suffix. These upgrades include an adjective in the name of the item, such as "Radiant" or "Minor Vigor".
Glyphs
Glyphs are a powerful tool to communicate visual information. They are animated to grab the attention of the viewer and stimulate curiosity in the brain. The glyphs' animation mimics body language, making them even more effective at conveying messages across language barriers. Glyphs also create a sense of familiarity in the brain, which increases retention of the message.
Each glyph can increase the value of a stat by a specific amount. This is displayed on the item's page when you open it in the Glyph Storage. This range is not the exact amount at the glyph can increase the stat, but rather the maximum value by which it can do so. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the tier and the quality of the product you are creating it for.
The majority of upgrade components added to items cannot be removed or replaced without dismantling them except for legendary equipment and upgrades. If you do have a non-useful rune or glyph that hasn't yet been incorporated into your equipment, you can transfer it to another piece of gear by using the Upgrade Glyphs context menu within the Glyphs panel. This will create a Glyph Set that includes the chosen glyph.
You can remove the glyph using a Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. The item will be destroyed that it was installed in, but you can recover the upgraded item with the glyph and its fragments, therefore it should not be considered as a loss.
When you remove an item after adding a glyph, the shards from the glyph will vanish. You can also place an inscription to your equipment to give it a bonus. Deferred Damage, for example can store damage, and be distributed slowly to the wearer rather than all at one time. This is beneficial for those who take a lot damage from enemies, but don't want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens can be used to change the affixes on weapons and equipment. They can be obtained from a variety of sources, such as mysterious boxes and rare drops from skulled monsters, or by killing bosses. Each reroll token grants the player a brand new random affix, which is typically superior to the original. Reroll tokens can also be a good method to reroll the stats of a weapon, which can be upgraded to increase damage or other perks.
Items that have been rerolled will not appear in the upgrade menu, however, they can still receive upgrades. These rerolled items are able to be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button which alters the layout of the item window and allows up to six items to be chosen to recycle. Recycling an item can add a small amount of points to its gauge of level. The amount is based on the item's rarity as well as its level. Thus, items with higher levels are more valuable to recycle than those with lower levels.
In addition to tokens for rerolls players can also use Star Remnants and Reroll Tokens to reroll the traits of a weapon in an upgraded unit. Rerolls roll the % chance of a particular weapon trait. If it rolls higher, the weapon will be upgraded, and if it is lower, the weapon remains unchanged. Weapons can be upgraded up to three times.
Rerolls are a good option for upgrading an item, but players must be aware that it can reduce the overall ilvl the weapon based on the number of rerolls used in order to increase the weapon to its ultimate ilvl. This is evident on Rings and Diadems because they are the only options for raising ilvl.
Some players have complained that the reroll system is expensive. It would be fairer to allow players to pay for it with money or food items, which will allow them to make changes to their builds without having to invest too much time. However, paid rerolls are not something the developers are planning to implement at this time in the game's development. They are planning to add an ingredient that allows players to alter their race in the future.
Leveling
There are many ways to upgrade an item. The first is to increase the upgrade amount which boosts the upgrade value of a given stat. The alternative is to increase the impact of the upgrade, which can increase damage or healing for an individual stat. Finally you have the option to upgrade the base item to a higher upgrade type. The upgraded item will maintain its iLevel, but will have the upgraded effects of the upgraded item.

It is important to keep in mind that upgrades are random. In most cases a better roll is determined by glyphs. However, there are times where a higher or more special roll could occur. In addition the iLevel of an upgrade will be determined by the item type, so should you upgrade a rare or unique item to an extraordinary type, it has a chance to gain an iLevel that is higher.
Upgrading items can be costly, particularly when you're upgrading a piece of gear from the normal to the legendary track. Additional Info will depend on the item's base iLevel and the amount of upgrade levels it has. Certain upgrade tracks require crests to reach the next level.
If you're lucky the upgraded item will attain the highest level on its upgrade track, and thus unlock an additional effect. This will provide the item with a significant upgrade value. The bonus effect will change with each upgrade level. In general, the upgrade effect is increased by +3.
The iLevel also changes according to the upgrade path and base level. For instance, an item that is upgraded from a rare or unique item to an exceptional one will have the chance to gain the enhanced defense of the new base item.
