Cyberpunk 2077 Item Upgrading Guide
Item upgrading is a key factor in maximizing the power of your gear. It allows you to add bonus stats onto your item's base level value.
Each upgrade template has a set of options which can be changed using the edition GUI. These options include upgrading reference and chances of upgrading.
Upgrade components
The process for upgrading weapons, armor and other gear in Cyberpunk 2077 was redesigned as part of the 2.0 update. Upgrade components can be found throughout Night City, and the item that you want to upgrade must have an upgrade slot available. The game will display a preview of the expected stats for the item after upgrading. It will also display the component or material needed. If you don't have the required level or resource to upgrade an item the button will say "Blocked."
The items that can be upgraded include armor and weapons, a few trinkets, and gathering tools. The upgrade slots on each of these items can be filled with various upgrades that give you bonus points or extra effects while the equipment is in use. These upgrades can be acquired through crafting, bought from a vendor, or taken from the loot.
There are two kinds of upgrade components such as gems and universal upgrades. Universal upgrades, which are similar to gemstones, can be used in any type of equipment and provide a smaller bonus than other types of upgrade components. Obtaining these is fairly simple and they are dropped by enemies or looted throughout the world. Gems however, can be obtained by disassembling objects or completing specific tasks.
